Overview:

Within the =DirtyDozen=, awards and honours are offered based on merit alone. While rank has many privileges, rank is not necessarily associated with awards.

In order to receive an award, one must be nominated by a member of the clan. Anyone can nominate another for an award. However, one cannot nominate themselves, though they may remind the Command Staff if they are set for a periodical recognition. If any member wishes to nominate an other for an award, they should inform a member of the Command Staff [Commanding Officer {CO} and/or Executive Officer/s {XO}] and supply documentation to support the recommendation.

The =DirtyDozen= also recognizes that non-member players on its servers may merit an award for their support of the team, their willingness to help other players [especially newer players] and their overall support of the clan as a whole.

Once a nomination is received, the Command Staff will review the nomination and vote on the award. Should an award be merited, the Command Staff will approve and issue the award.

Purpose:

The purpose of this document is to detail the awards that may be issued to =DirtyDozen= clan members and other players on our public servers. It is also intended to serve as a guide for which awards to recommend, how to recommend a player and how the awarding of honours and medals will be handled.

Recommendations:

1.          No player may nominate him- or herself for an award, unless as a reminder for a periodical
recognition, such as Good Conduct and Defense medals. Each member should remind the
Command Staff when they are due for either of the afformentioned honours.

2.          A player may be nominated for no more than one [1] award per match.

3.          A player may receive the same award for performance in different matches.

4.          In order to nominate a player for an award:
          a.          Document the reason for the award.
          b.          Submit screenshots or recorded demos of the action[s] of the recommended player.
          c.          Request a copy of the Server Log from the Resident Server Administrator
          d.          Submit the above to the Command Staff for review.

Note: At some point, the documentation will be automated via a Website or other manner of electronic form. Screenshots and recorded demos will still need to be submitted via e-mail. The Resident Server Administrator is one who may physically connect to the server. As of this writing,
Clint Walker
and John Casavetes are the Resident Server Administrators.

5.          There should be no less than three [3] documented accounts for any award from separate
          players.
          a.          Should there not be at least three [3] members who can testify to the actions of the
player recommended, a recorded demo and the appropriate Log File may suffice.
          b.          Should there not be at least three [3] members, the Command Staff may call for a
review of the recommendation via Chat Room using an Instant Messaging client or the
Chat provided through our forums on our forums.

6.          The CO and XO reserve the right to involve other clan members as they see fit in the review
          of the recommendation.

7.          Upon receipt, the CO and XO will review the recommendation and decide on one of the
          following options:
          a.          Award the recommended Medal
          b.          Award a higher Medal
          c.          Award a lower Medal
          d.          Deny the Recommendation

8.          Should a clan member wish a further review of the award [i.e.: the member is not satisfied
with the decision of the Command Staff]
          a.          They may request--via e-mail to the Command Staff--another review.
          b.          At such a time, the Command Staff may convene--at their discretion--a board of other
senior clan members for a further review.
          c.          Decisions from this board are final.

Award Issuance:

The Command Staff will, after review, issue the awards either via clan-wide e-mail, the next clan practice, the clan forums, or via a special "ceremony" to be conducted online via the chat board on our forums.

Awards:

See below for individual awards and the criteria for each. Awards are ranked in order of seniority beginning with the highest honour.
Medal of Honor

Criteria: The Medal of Honor is awarded by the Commanding Officer only to a =DirtyDozen= member who, while a member of the clan, distinguishes himself or herself conspicuously with gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his or her life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in a clan match against an enemy of the =DirtyDozen=; while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force. The deed performed must have been one of personal bravery or self-sacrifice so conspicuous as to clearly distinguish the individual above his or her comrades and must have involved risk of life. Incontestable proof of the performance of the service will be exacted and each recommendation for the award of this decoration will be considered on the standard of extraordinary merit.

Victoria Cross

Criteria: The Victoria Cross is awarded by the Commanding Officer only and shall only be awarded for most conspicuous bravery, some daring or pre-eminent act of valor, self-sacrifice or extreme devotion to duty in the presence of the enemy during a clan match.

George Cross

Criteria: The George Cross is intended for non-=DirtyDozen= members who show dedication to our clan by supporting and promoting the server, the members of the =DirtyDozen= and the clan as a whole. This is the only award to be given to a player outside the =DirtyDozen= clan and is equal in seniority to The Victoria Cross.

Silver Star

Criteria: The Silver Star is awarded to a person who, while serving in any capacity with the =DirtyDozen=, is cited for gallantry in action against an enemy while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force during a clan match. The required gallantry, while of a lesser degree than that required for award of the Medal of Honor, must nevertheless have been performed with marked distinction.

Bronze Star

Criteria:
   a. The Bronze Star is awarded to any person who, while serving in any capacity in the =DirtyDozen=, distinguished him- or herself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service while engaged in an action against an enemy during a clan match.
   b. Awards may be made for acts of heroism, performed under circumstances described above, which are of lesser degree than required for the award of the Silver Star.
   c. Awards may be made to recognize single acts of merit or meritorious service. The required achievement or service, while of lesser degree than that required for the award of the Silver Star, must nevertheless have been meritorious and accomplished with distinction.

Meritorious Service Medal

Criteria: Awarded to members of the =DirtyDozen= who distinguished themselves by outstanding meritorious achievement or service to the clan. Normally, the acts or services rendered must be comparable to that required for the Bronze Star but in a duty of lesser though considerable responsibility.

National Defense Medal

Criteria: The National Defense Service Medal will be awarded for honorable active service in any clan match. For the purpose of the award, these criterium must be observed:
1.          Reserve forces personnel serving as Spectators are not elligible for
          nomination.
2.          One complete map must be played in order to be eligible for this
          award.
This does not however, mean that a player can not be eligible for another award should actions in a portion of a map during a clan match merit it.

Letter of Commendation

Criteria: The Commanding and Executive Officers may from time to time recognize performance and/or teamwork that do not merit an award. At such times, a Letter of Commendation can be issued to an individual or a group of individuals at their discretion.

Purple Heart

Criteria: The Purple Heart would be offered as acknowledgement that a member of the =DirtyDozen= has been removed entirely from the clan and DoD by circumstances beyond their control for a period of three weeks or more and were able and willing to return to their duties with the clan after this period. Depending on the severity of this absence's effects upon the member in question, the required period may be shortened or lengthened at the Command Staff's discretion [i.e.: emergency hospitalisation could require a shorter absence, but one to get their lips to look a little more pouty wouldn't mean much].

Humanitarian Service
Award

Criteria:  This would be offered to any member who has demonstrated an exemplary attitude toward new players and other players having difficulty enjoying DoD. While it is true that such helpfulness is expected of all members, this may be awarded if it is understood by the Command Staff that a member has gone above and beyond the call of decency's duty.

Defense Medal

Criteria: The Defense Service Medal is awarded to personnel for active duty service for a period of twelve months or longer. Subsequent Defense Medals may be earned every one-hundred and eighty [180] days to include a maximum of three [3] consecutive stars [4 Defense Medals].

Good Conduct Medal

Criteria: This is awarded to a player of any rank who has been an active, consistent asset to the =DirtyDozen= for a minimum of thirty [30] days. Subsequent Good Conduct Medals may be earned every nintey [90] days to include a maximum of three [3] consecutive stars [4 Good Conduct Medals]. When a member attains the limit of Good Conduct Medals, they shall be awarded the Defense Medal.

Silver Star Device

Indication: The Silver Star device, when present on honour ribbons where they are pemitted, means the wearer has been awarded the maximum number of equivalent honours.

Bronze Star Device

Indication: Each Bronze Star device present on honour ribbons where they are permitted indicates that an additional equivalent honour has been awarded.
